One reason why people of diverse ages are getting addicted with the Angry Birds is because of the characteristic of the opponent. As I was observing the people playing the game I noticed that they get angry at times at the pigs. Some get dissatisfied but most really gets irritated each time they miss the mark in one of the levels and this emotion pulls the player more and more into the game. Players get addicted not only because of the simple “pull and release” mechanism of the game and if luck comes your way the enemies get to be destroyed. Talking about the green pigs, did you notice that the birds are facing the pigs while the pigs are facing at YOU? It is one of the strategies of the creator so that you’ll get pissed off whenever the pigs laugh at you when you fail in the game. The pigs are actually challenging you! And you are bound to be defeated during the early levels and during that level you start to gather feelings of vengeance to the enemy pigs and the satisfaction that destroying the pigs brings also bursts up the players want for more of that feeling.
Who told you that you need to finish that level before you can go to sleep? Who said you have to solve that puzzle before you can go to school? Who said you have to destroy those pigs first before taking dinner? Most of the gamers set standard to themselves when playing a game. Reaching a specific goal fist before doing something is common among avid gamers of the latest hyped game, the Angry Birds. It shows a lack of self control and discipline.
The players should always remember that it should be you who is in control of the game and not the other way around. The player should be the one in control. But the tendency is that the addict players forget themselves and the things they need to do. They get stuck in the game for hours and hours, they tend to neglect the world around them. They get too engrossed in the game that often times their health is the price they have to pay. Some studies show that spending too much time with computer games or on internet tends to get the child to be obese. There are also a lot of thing that needs to be considered. So next time try to give yourself a break from the game.
For a very long time me and my grandpa does not have something in common. I do not like his war stories, I was not really impressed by his stories of valor and conspiracy unlike my other cousins who would really listen to him. Sometimes I think he was adding things up to make the story more exciting. But I love my grandpa, I can still remember the time when he made a slingshot for me and he taught me how to use it. I was really happy that time, I even brought it to school and showed it off to my friends, and just like grandpa I was making stories up about me and my slingshot.
One day I downloaded a game from my laptop it was called the Angry Birds and I was surprised! I have got to use a slingshot to win against the enemies and then I remembered my grandpa. I was always looking for a way that we could get together, to have something in common. One day I visited him and told him about the game. He was hesitant the first time I introduced it to him, but I told him how I missed him and that I was reminded of him through that game so he gave a try. He pulled the slingshot… and began once again the good times with my grandpa, since then I visit him every Tuesdays and Sundays and conquer level after level together.
After a hard day’s work I go home burned out and stressed. I should not bring home the stresses from work but whatever I do it always haunt me. I don’t want to ruin my spare time for my only family, my 12 year old son. Before I got promoted we always have fun after my work. We talk about a lot of things at school and even though I haven’t seen all of his classmates I still know their names and faces because tells me everything and points them to me in their class directory. We watch movies together, answer his homework together, and even cook dinner together, but after the promotion everything has changed.
It seem I’m too stressed to listen to him, no time for movies because my body is screaming for bed already, no more cooking together since I have to buy from fast-foods anymore. One day I realized that I need to bring back those moments together with my kid. To make it up for him I bought him a PSP for his birthday. He was jumping like a wild horse when he opened the box. I also bought the Angry Birds game for his PSP. One time he taught me how to play the game and it turned out to be very addicting! Since then we restored our bonding moments together by playing the game. After work I always look forward to finish a level together with my son.
It was almost time for my next class one Tuesday morning, but I gave my self five minutes more of Angry Birds. I already finished four levels and I don’t want it to be an even number. This will be the last level before my next class, I said to my self. But that level was different from the rest of the levels I completed. It was a very difficult level or maybe because I was in a rush and then a terrible thing happened! I failed to complete the level so I tried to go through it again and then I failed again. My time was running out. Another five minutes, I said to myself. I took a deep breath, fixed my eyes on the screen, and played it the 4th time. That time I really poured my utmost attention to the game. I was reaching a deeper level of concentration. It all went well in the beginning and it got a little tense in the middle and then came the last shot for the last enemy. I calculated every movement in the screen, considered every possible trajectory. I took the shot and I went to class late, I cannot concentrate while I was in the class that day I realized that I was not playing for fun anymore. The game controlled me and not me controlling the game.
My nephew is a strong willed child, spoiled by my sister; he has got to have the things he wants. Once he stayed over my place since my sister has to go to a business tour for a week, I took him to a grocery with me, he was being well behaved for a little while, when he saw something he likes he wants me to buy it for him and so I did. After I bought him a bag of mallows he was starting to point at other goodies again and I don’t have enough cash already.
The scary thing happened, he created a scene in the store and I don’t know how to handle tantrums! The first thing that came into my mind is to make him stop because I was so embarrassed! I took my phone and opened my Angry Birds application when he heard the sound he stopped right away; he looked at me and smiled. I was so relieved! I didn’t know that even four years old knows the game Angry Birds but for now he owns my phone but at least it keep him away from tantrums and keeps me away from shame.

Since then the gaming world has never been the same, the popularity of the game even inspired businessmen to sell different kinds of angry birds’ collectible items, from key-chains, to t-shirts, to mugs, and stuffed toys! Definitely the angry birds are dominating not just in the virtual and gaming world but in the business world also.
One thing I learned from the Angry Birds game was patience. Patience is not merely the ability to wait, but the ability to wait with the right attitude. At first when I was playing the game I would just fire at those poor kamikaze birds without even thinking or considering my shots and it resulted to wasted birds or repeat levels. Until the difficult levels came that I have to plan my attacks. I learned to wait and consider first what bird I am going to use to maximize their abilities to prevent wasted shots and also to increase my chances of sweet success. I also learned to stop before launching my kamikazes for the attack. I will analyse first the possible trajectory or the bird and also consider the area that will be damaged for that attack. Critical timing is also needed to maximize the ability of the bird, especially with the birds that needs to be detonated by control. I can say that my gaming strategy is a mixture of patience, good sense of trajectory, and a good control for timing. Since then I levelled up my gaming experience and enjoyed it more.
It started in the year 2009 when Jaakko Iisalo a senior game designer from Rovio Mobile proposed a game during a time when the Rovio staff initiated reviewing suggestions for possible games. He proposed it in the form of a simulated screenshot presenting some birds with no noticeable legs or wings and the birds are angry looking, while the image provided no hint as to what kind of game was being played, the staff adored the characters, and the team voted to design a game around them. As the idea of Angry Birds was being developed, the staff decided that the birds needed an enemy. During that time, the “swine flu” epidemic was hot in the news, so the staff created the pigs as the birds’ enemy.
The game’s mechanisms were inspired by other physics games that have been out on the market over the years, including a game that was released at the same year, Crush the Castle. The preliminary cost to develop Angry Birds was projected to exceed 100,000 Euros, excluding the money spent on the succeeding updates. . For the version Apple iOS, Rovio merged with distributor Chillingo to bring out the game to the Apple App Store. Since then, Rovio has self-published nearly all of the later parts of the game.
Playing the Angry Birds game, we can all notice that the birds are fired to the pigs like a kamikaze, sacrificing their own lives to destroy the enemy even though some shots are not a sure hit to the target. And for some that made the game violent. The game also creates a bad impression to pigs. I saw my nephew hitting the book with a toy hammer once, I took the book and I saw a picture of a barn with Wilbur in it.
I was wondering why he acted that way. I later found out that his older brother is an Angry Birds player and his little brother is always watching him play and how he acts every time he hits a pig during the game was actually observed by his little brother and eventually mimic the behaviour towards the villain in the game and copy that feeling towards the real things in reality. Although we cannot deny that the game is very enjoyable that even adults get hook to it, we must have limits for the game. We must be observant of the little people who are also observing us, recording our actions and words, and playing it back to the real world. Games such as this should have parental guidance.
